Finished Pin Keeper

This morning I got up and and got to work real early. I finished one of the Pin Keepers for the swap. It turned out to be a great floral with a butterfly and dragonflies. The fabric I got on clearance at that old red neck heaven, WalMart. I thought the the colors were just wonderful.

So, here are the photos:

As you can see I had also added a tassel. I also played with some of the stitches. I am thinking that I need to use some of the combinations on one of my CQ blocks as I think that they turned out real well.

Well anyway here is the first of two that I am doing for the swap. I cannot wait to see what everyone else has been working on.

Today's Work

Today I worked on a ring bearers pillow for a friends daughters wedding. She wanted me to use some of the motif's from her dress. I wish I had a picture of the dress as it is just beautiful. well as I am stuch for the moment with only a scanner every one will have to enjoy looking at the top for now and I will post the picture of the finished pillow when I am able to get one up.

So, What do you think?????????

For the other project.............

Okay here is a teaser for all of those in the CD Pin Keeper Swap with me. I have the front and the back to both of the pin keepers that I am making for the swap pieced.

Here are those pictures:

As a side note for my blog teaser, I am happy that everyone is enjoying it! Since y'all have to guess both the theme AND what I am making, I am happy to say that some of y'all are half right. I will post another teaser in a few days. Giving y'all enought time to stew on it!

My Blogging Teaser

I am working on a extra special project. This project is something that I have been wanting to do for a while. I am very excited about it! As I have been accused in the recent past(by a person who shall remain nameless, Kerry) that I have been neglecting my blog.

Weeelllll, I am going to start publishing teasers about my project. Here is the first! I will be posting teasers until someone guesses what I am making AND the theme. The first one who guesses right will win a prize.

The above scan is of some fibers that can be used in any generic project. But I am using them in mine. Can anyone guess my project???????

Asian Nights RR

Now that I am finally up and going again with the computer I am able to post again. This first post now that I am back is about Cobi's Asian Nights RR block.

Cobi made this WONderful block of all shades of orange. Just beautiful warm and rich colors. No flat Halloween orange here! Another thing about this block is she wanted us tho think India. Cobi is a lover of all things Indian. So off to my friends house to get inspiration. She is from India. The scarves and Sari's that come from India are just wonderful and rich with color and designs! Mostly floral and shiny!

So we are now on the move with the blocks and I am waiting for the next block. I cannot wait to get it!

Above is Cobi's wonderful block.........

How To Make A CD Pin Keeper

Materials Needed:

2 6x6 blocks of muslin

2 Cd's

2 pieces of batting cut to fit Cd's

Also needed a sharpie/permanent marker, thread, needles, embroidery thread, fabrics for piecing, whatever else you would want for embellishing, Perle thread.

~Place a CD on the top of one of the 6x6 squares.

~With your sharpie make a circle using your CD for a pattern, also put an X in the middle hole to mark the middle of your circle.

~Do the same with the other 6x6 square.

~Turn over your 6x6 square.

~Start piecing your square.

~When you are finished piecing baste a line around the drawn circle.

~Do the same with your other square.

~ Now you are ready to embellish. Embellishing within the basted circle embellish as you would any CQ block, using embroidery floss to buttons and beads. Just remember that the possibilities are endless!!

~After embellishing place one of the two squares face down. Place one of the Cd's in the already drawn circle.

~Cut about one half inch to one inch around the CD.

~After you do that take the thread and baste around the outer circle so that you can gather the material around the CD.

~ When you are finished getting the block ready to gather, before you put in the CD, you want to put in the batting.

~After the batting put in the CD, pull the thread so that the material gathers around the CD. At this point the CD should look kinda like a giant yo-yo. You will do the same with the other CD.

~After gathering the material around the Cd's and securing it. Put the Cd's together with the wrong sides facing each other, and the embellished sides facing out.

~With the perle thread you will sew the 2 Cd's together with an blanket stitch.

~After completing one side with the blanket stitch you will need to turn them over and do the blanket stitch on the other side.

~Pull out your basting lines and now you have a complete pin keeper.

ENJOY!

Last Weekend at Last!

I have finally been able to sit down and let you know what I did this weekend. It so far has been a busy week with my DD starting another year in color guard.

First I worked on Clairee's block. This the last block for the Dreams of Spring RR. My block is now on the way home as Clairee's is on to her. I picked out the only spot left just about and worked on that one. It is a beautiful shade of green as this block is to be a pillow. So I used all color fast thread and ribbon on it. Hand dyed stuff was out as I did not want it to run on her.

I experimented with new flowers and made my first monogram. I especially like the "C" I made for her. I hope she does also.

Here is a close up of the spot that I worked on.................

I also worked on some CD pin keepers. One of the ladies that I worked with brought me all of the CD's she had that were not usable. She wanted one to hang in her car. She does not sew but she thought that the pin keeper is a wonderful decorative piece. She made me think of the ocean, kind of like a free soul. I told her that she reminded me of a sea sprite. SSSooooooo this is the one I made for her.....

I gave it to her Monday at work. She loved it! She told me that her apartment was full of "sea" or "ocean" things. I just knew that she was an water person! She has it hanging in her car right now! I hope that it lifts her spirits when she is having a bad day!

The last thing that I worked on this past weekend is another pin keeper. As many know I work for a company that services nursing homes. I go in and draw blood at night. I have a lady who is in one for knee replacement rehab. She is a sane/traditional quilter (I am trying to convert her to the crazy way but you know that some just cant be turned!). I made her a pin keeper as when I go in to draw her blood sometimes I have to help her find her pins. I took it to her Monday morning. She loved it! She said that it was the first time that a vampire brought her something instead of taking blood from her! I am hoping that she is enjoying it. Here is the picture of what I made for her..................
Well that was my fairly productive weekend in a nut shell.................................................
